10th March 2015

 Dear parents and whanau

We are all having a lovely first term back with the mostly sunny days. The children have loved having lots of physical play and enjoying exploring water outside with pipes, the water canal and watering the little garden we have planted together. The lettuces are just about ready for our end of term sandwich making.

Please welcome the following new families to join our Grace Kindy family. A big Grace welcome to Hunter Hearn (mum Janine and dad Nicholas), Siena Ng (mum Merridth and dad Richard) and Splendira Opetaia (mum Noya and dad Opeta)

We can hardly believe that the end of term is soon approaching, along with Miss Best’s farewell. Please mark in your diaries that we will be having her farewell during our Fish n Chip evening. This will be held at Grace Kindy at 5.30pm on Friday 27th March. Please bring your own takeaways. Tomato sauce, tea and coffee will be provided.

In preparing the children for having a new teacher next term, I asked the older children what characteristics the new teacher should have. We were told that the teacher “should be kind” “should help people” “Be able to make children better” and to be “as tall as Miss Best“. They were quite excited about being able to SKYPE Miss Best when she arrives in England.

We are still following with our theme of ‘Our Changing Environment’. The vegetable planting was a great success with the children also being involved with using the wheelbarrow to unload the plants etc from Mrs McGee’s car to the back of the kindy.

The Older Tamariki went on a trip to Cummings Park library, where we had the opportunity of seeing what goes on behind the librarian’s desks as well as learning new rhymes and finger songs.

A big THANK YOU to Chrisna Moffat who kindly showed our Older Tamariki her fabulous paintings. The opportunity of having a recognised Artist at kindy was a real treat for us all.

Waiting List

We will have a couple of spots available for our Younger Tamariki session, during the middle of the year.

Class Photo

A reminder that we will be having a class photo fundraiser this week. A class photo will be taken of the Younger Tamariki during the session held on Friday 13th March. The Older Tamariki will have their photo taken on Thursday the 12th March.

Dress-up Day

We will be having a ‘Red’ theme dress-up day with red pikelets and many red themed activities available. The Older Tamariki will have their dress-up day on Tues 17th March with the Younger Tamariki on Wed 18th March.

Needs – Can you help?

We are needing a parent to help with our entertainment book fundraising. If you are unable to do a parent help this term perhaps you would please help us out with this fundraiser. Our previous parent who did this is happy to show you what to do.

We also need someone to kindly volunteer to sand and paint the legs of our water play troughs. Paint and sandpaper will be supplied.

Do you know someone who has access to wood, that is not tanilised, for our carpentry table? The Older Tamariki would greatly appreciate any wood that can be contributed. Please let one of the teachers know if you can help.

Reminders

As the weather is now very changeable, please remember to include your child’s sunhat and coat. We have sunhats for sale at $20 each, as well as Grace Kindergarten tee-shirts.

We have sunblock available for you to use on your children upon their arrival. The teachers will apply sunblock to the Older Tamariki after they have had lunch, as the day is now longer for them.

Please check out our facebook page (you don’t need to be a member to see it). It contains all of our updates, plus if you like or follow it you can receive updates to your newsfeeds.

We have flyers available for you to give to friends and family on the information table if you know of families who are looking for a kindergarten.
