Dear parents and whanau
We have had a wonderful term with lots of action on the new church hall site. The children loved observing the crane and electric scissor lift at work from our especially set up viewing area.
This week we held Fancy dress-up days with lots of excited children enjoying ice-cream parfaits and having their photos taken in the photo booth set up.
Miss Henderson (Beth) has settled in well to her new position, as a full time teacher, so we are all feeling very fortunate to have already formed a close teaching team.
We would like to welcome the following new families to join our Grace Kindy family. A big Grace welcome to Dulain (mum Gayani and dad Milinde).
Praying for you
Did you know that each week the teachers pray for your children? If you have a specific prayer need for your child or for your family please speak to one of the teachers or send us an email. We will happily include that in our prayers.
Teachers’ Professional Development
During the school holidays we will have a speech and language therapist (Christian Wright) providing us with professional development regarding language development, as well as working with children who have English as a second language.
Our Programme
This term for our Older Tamariki we had a focus on Maths and Construction, where the children have had opportunities to use tape measures for finding numbers, ruling and cutting out lengths of paper as well as lengths of wood. We also celebrated Matariki, the Māori New Year. The Younger Tamariki have had a variety of waiata and te reo used in books and CDs. The Older Tamariki have been involved in Māori art by exploring koru shapes for screen printing. They also have been making fry bread and participated in a variety of games using te reo. As well as storytelling, non-fiction books and YouTube video’s on space.
Next term our Older Tamariki will be going on a bus trip to Te Papa to participate in a Matariki programme.
Parent Night
Kellee Teal has kindly volunteered to host a dessert evening for parents, caregivers, teachers and board members to socialise together on Thursday 23rd July at 7.30pm.
Parent Help
A reminder to please put your name on our parent help roster, which is now out for term 3. This is a great opportunity to connect with your child and their friends whilst providing much appreciated help for the session.
Waiting List
We will have a couple of spots available during the middle of the year. Please grab some flyers if you know of friends and family who might be interested in joining the Grace Kindy family.
Entertainment Books
Please support our kindergarten’s fundraising efforts for our new playground by purchasing and encouraging friends to purchase an entertainment book.
Help Needed
We are looking for someone to kindly volunteer to sand and paint the legs of our water play troughs. Paint and sandpaper will be supplied. Please contact one of the teachers if you can do this.
Any donations of tissues are greatly appreciated, especially with the chilly mornings now approaching.
