Dear parents and whanau

What a wonderful last week we are having with lots of outdoor play and the children still being very excited about the successful kindy disco we had last Friday night. Thank you to all who helped us out with selling, dancing and supporting this fundraising/ social night. We have raised $825 which will go towards some additional playground equipment.

We would like to acknowledge andthank New World Khandallahwho again has very kindly supplied us with all of the food for the disco, including sausages, chippies, orange drinks and sauces.

Thank you also to Gareth Eves who donated a disco ball along with Cory’s Electrical, Porirua branch

Please make sure that you pencil in your diaries the date of ourKindy Christmas Show.

This will be held here onFriday 7thDecember, 6pm to 7.30pm and will involve the children celebrating by singing their favourite kindy and Christmas songs.

Programme

In light of Conservation week we were able to have the opportunity to observe a Powelliphanta snail (NZ giant snail). The children were very excited discussing their observations and feeding it worms which they had found.

We have been having a focus on languages and other ways of greeting and saying thank you – including te reo, Chinese and sign language. This week the children have been very interested in our Chinese cultural display as well as using the fans, chopsticks and looking at the globe and maps of the world.

For our older tamariki we decided to extend their interest in a book which contained a photo of some Chinese people farming. We did this by providing them with the experience of actually carrying their own buckets of water on a pole balanced on their shoulders. Learning that not everyone has a car or access to a bus or a train provided lots of thought provoking discussions.

We have also had a variety of interesting thoughts shared from the children about being grateful and thanking God for what we have in NZ.

The trip to Johnsonville Police Station with the older tamariki was a huge success, thank you Blair for giving us the experience of seeing road spikes demonstrated and finding out what is kept in the boot of a police car.

Please welcome the following new families to join our Grace Kindy family.

A big Grace welcome to theClements family, the Morris family and the Marks family.

Health

Please remember to inform the kindy if your child is absent. We have a book available on the sign in table to write in if you are going on holiday. If your child is sick, a quick phone call or email is much appreciated and will help us to monitor if there is an illness going around. Vomiting or diarrhea has a 48hr exclusion period from kindy.

Also please continue to check your children’s hair for nits. Please see one of the teachers for information regarding treatment if found.

Parent Help

Thank you to the parents who have signed up for Parent Helpfor term 3. Parent help is a great opportunity to connect with your child and their friends whilst providing much appreciated help for the session.

We are requiring each family of the Younger Tamariki Session to put their name down to two parent helps each. The Older Tamariki Session are needing three parent helps per term. Please note that if you have a child to pick-up from school that the afternoon parent help duty can be made earlier to accommodate this.

Teacher Goals/Reviews and Professional Development

Due to our recent Professional Development on Autism, the teachers have been left feeling enthused in the additional skills they have gained .

Praying for you

Each week the teachers pray for your children. If you have a specific prayer need for your child or for your family please pop into our prayer container (on the sign in table) or speak to one of the teachers. Alternatively feel free to send us an email.

We will happily include that in our weekly prayer time.

Lunchboxes

Please label your child’s drink bottle and their lunchboxes. A sharpie can be used from the teachers’ office.

Please make sure there are no chocolates, lollies or products containing nuts in your child’s lunch. This includes no peanut butter sandwiches and muesli bars containing nuts.

Winter Clothing

The weather is starting to turn quite warm,

with some very sunny patches, so please remember to pack and label your child’s sunhat.

Waiting List

We have a couple of vacancies in our younger session, during term 4, so please grab some flyers, from our sign-in table, if you know of friends and family who might be interested in joining the Grace Kindy family.

May God bless you and your children.

Kind Regards from the

Grace Kindergarten Teachers
