Term Two 2013 Board News

22nd May 2013

To all Grace Kindergarten parents and whanau,

Recently Grace Kindergarten experienced a sewerage spill inside the toilet area. This was caused by very heavy rain overwhelming the council sewerage pipes and it backing up into our Kindergarten. The Grace Board takes this event very seriously.

This same situation happened over a year ago. At that time the council workers assured us that it would not occur again. We have now formally written to the council seeking written assurance and details of how they will prevent this happening.

In addition, we are making some plumbing modifications to ensure that if there is a continued failure in the council’s pipes, any overflow does not occur within the kindergarten building.

The Board takes the Health and Safety of our children and staff very seriously. We believe the approach we are taking will ensure there is no repeat.

Shelley Julian

It is with much sadness that we inform you that Shelley Julian will be finishing at Grace Kindergarten at the end of term 2. Shelley has been the part-time teacher for the afternoon session. As a community we have been blessed to have Shelley work in this role for over 3 years. Her energy and welcoming nature will be missed. We will have an opportunity to celebrate Shelley’s time at Grace Kindergarten closer to the end of term.

The Board is currently working through a process to recruit.

Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of Grace Kindergarten will be held at 7.30pm Monday 10th June at Grace Kindergarten. The AGM is an important opportunity for the board to report to its community. We would encourage all parents to attend. As well as reports on the last year, there will be a yummy supper! Please book this date in your calendar.

Applications for Places

Places are available for Grace Kindergarten in 2013. We encourage you to spread the word about Grace to your friends and family. Enrolment forms are available from the teachers or off the website www.grace.ac.nz under the “Enrol Now!” tab.

Fundraising

Fundraising is an important part of allowing Grace Kindergarten to provide the broad array of opportunities for our children to experience. Typically we use fundraising money to purchase equipment, rather than for operational expenses.

Your support of a number of fundraising events over the last year, along with some external grant funding, has meant that we are almost able to make a couple of big and exciting purchases that we have been aiming for. We are very close to being able to purchase a new modular outdoor play system and some iPads for the kindergarten.

The Board greatly appreciates your support of fundraising events. Please keep at eye out for others ways you can contribute at upcoming events so we can soon make these exciting purchases.

God bless you

Dear parents

What fun we have had at kindy this term with the excitement of the Rugby World Cup. This has been a great opportunity for us in finding out some of your children’s links to other countries and cultures they feel connected too. While also acknowledging the wonderful world that God has made.

Please remember that we are having our family ‘Fish n Chip’ night on the first Friday of Term 4. It will be the 28th October at 5.30pm. Just bring along your family’s favorite takeaway and a blanket! We will supply the tomato sauce and a wee treat baked by the afternoon children. We will endevour to have all of the children on our powerpoint presentation re dramatic play.

Professional Development completed this term…
Pansy Wee attended a workshop on ICT (Information Communication technology). Ashleigh Best attended a course on ‘schemas’ – visual thought patterns. This will help the teaching team to gain a deeper understanding of how children are making sense of their worlds and ways we can extend and support children’s thinking.

Please do not leave your child unattended in the car. Consider arranging for another parent to bring your child out to your car! – just provide us with a phone call or the collecting parent with a signed note to arrange this.

THANK YOU – to Marie Butel (Matthew’s mum) for organising our ‘CHALK TOY FUNDRAISER’ this term.

Absences:If your child is going to be away from Grace Kindergarten please ring us and let us know.

Start times: Please remember to respect the Kindergarten operating hours. Sessions start at 8.30am or 11.30am. If you arrive early it interferes with the time the teachers have for setting up and for exchanging important confidential information prior to children’s arrival.

Parent Help Roster: Due to the weekly/daily changes in our parent help roster we are unable to email out an accurate copy. Please write down the dates you have chosen in your calendar at the time of your choice. If you cannot make your parent help duty – please contact 3 other parents to try to swap before your duty date.

Please speak to myself (Pip) or Ange Marklew if you have any financial concerns regarding paying donations. We understand that this can be a tough financial climate for some of our kindergarten families.

Please bring in your sunhat as it is now compulsory for all outside play.
Remember to pack an extra set of clothes for your child.
